The purpose of this study is to predict the tendency to smoke based on attachment styles and family intimacy. The research method is descriptive-correlation. The statistical population of the study included all undergraduate and graduate students of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the Central Azad University of Tehran in the academic year of 1997-98, whose volume according to the latest statistics in that year was a total of 281 people. Based on cluster random sampling method, 162 people were selected as the sample. Data collection tools included three questionnaires: attachment styles, family intimacy and smoking tendency. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (multivariate regression) were used for analysis. Findings showed that family attachment styles and intimacy have the ability to predict students' smoking addiction. The results also showed that the dimensions of intimacy (two dimensions of emotional closeness in the form of love, self-sacrifice) have the ability to predict students' tendency to smoke, but the satisfaction
